12/16/2010 - 12/10/2010 - OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Happy Holidays Team Osan! I would like to wish you and your families the very best as 2010 comes to an end and as we celebrate the beginning of a new year.

I feel I owe a deep debt of gratitude to each of you for your hard work, service and contributions to the success of Osan AB and United States Forces Korea. You are the reason we have and will continue to accomplish our mission to be "Ready to Fight and Win Tonight."

Team Osan officially kicked-off this year's holiday season with the annual base tree lighting ceremony Dec. 6. It was an excellent event that really brought in the holiday spirit and I want to thank everyone who participated.

Whether you spend your free time this holiday season at a tree lighting ceremony, shopping, skiing, or sightseeing, I ask that you please remember to celebrate responsibly. Evaluate the hazards in your travel plans, use sound risk management principles and discuss mitigation strategies with your commander or supervisor.

Set a standard of zero tolerance for reckless behavior -- for yourself, your loved ones, and your wingmen. Your family, friends, and fellow Airmen are counting on you to be there for them. As 2010 comes to an end I want you to consider how the results of your personal risk-related decisions and actions might affect your family and friends. The best gift you can you give your family and friends is to arrive home safely and honorably after your tour in Korea.

If you are staying on the peninsula and you don't have plans tell your first line supervisor or first sergeant. Over 90 percent of our Airmen are on unaccompanied tours here and as Airmen and Wingmen it is our job to ensure everyone is taken care of this holiday season.

Be responsible, be smart, be safe, be great wingmen, and have a happy holiday season!

Best Wishes!!!

Col. Patrick Malackowski, 51st Fighter Wing Commander
