51st Security Forces Squadron

The 51st SFS Defenders train and integrate with host nation counterparts to be Always Ready to Defend the Base and guard the freedom of the 51 million people in the Republic of Korea. These quiet professionals are “Ready to Fight Tonight” in support of the 51st FW’s mandate of “Leading the Charge.”

HISTORY
The 51st Security Forces Squadron is the largest Security Forces unit in the Pacific Air Forces, defending the most forward-deployed fighter wing in the Air Force, and guarding more than $18 billion dollars in Protection Level 1 through 4 resources. On Oct. 25, 1950, the 51st Air Police Squadron, which would become the 51st Security Police Squadron and finally the 51st Security Forces Squadron, was deployed to Kimpo Air Base, Republic of Korea, and baptized in combat.

In the Asian lunar calendar, 12 animal and five element combinations represent each year with 1950 being the “Year of the Metal Tiger” -- hence the 51st Security Forces Squadron’s nickname.  Revered by the Korean people as a guardian, the tiger is known for its courage, aggressiveness and for never faltering.

The Metal Tiger seen on the unit patch represents our combat heritage and warrior spirit since the first deployment in 1950. The two crossed Korean swords represent our Armistice and Wartime missions and the close relationship between U.S. and Korean forces.
