OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --
It's an hour full of dancing, stories and arts and crafts each Thursday morning as the base library seems to come alive for preschoolers.
Preschool Story Time from 10 - 11 a.m., led by Air Force spouse Tiffany Hagarty, has proved to be a fun and exciting place for the younger crowd on base, as well as a great child development tool.
"No child is too young to be read to," Hagarty said. "For the younger kids who aren't in school, it is important for them to socially interact with other children. This also gives them some practice sitting still."
The average gathering includes more than 15 children and their parents. Preschool Story Time isn't just for the children, though, she said. It's also a good opportunity for the parents to meet and socialize.
Story time opens with dancing to kid-favorite songs such as the Hokey Pokey. Volunteers then read classic and modern stories to the group.
"I have two girls of my own back home, so I really enjoy working with the kids," said Tech. Sgt. Adam Lloyd, 51st Aerospace Medicine Squadron bioenvironmental flight chief and regular volunteer at Preschool Story Time. "I do it every week and it's a lot of fun. I'd recommend others to get involved."
The children can then get hands-on with various arts and crafts, provided by the parents.
The program has received high praise from those involved.
"Story time is a very popular program and Tiffany is doing a great job," said Kim, Jung-ae, Osan Library director. "We just want to let everyone who hasn't heard of it to know it's available, especially in the winter months when it gets colder outside."
The library has big plans for the holiday season.
"We are going to have a two-hour celebration on Dec. 13," Hagarty explained. "The library will be providing hot chocolate and cookies and we will be decorating sugar cones as Christmas trees."
Preschool Story Time continues all year long and children of all ages are welcome. To get involved or volunteer, contact the Osan Library at 784-6611 or visit http://www.51fss.com/library.htm
