South Korea Sojourns XII: War Memorial of Korea
A statue of Sejong the Great in Yeouido Park Aug. 2, 2014, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Sejong the Great is a renowned Korean ruler, who introduced the Hangul alphabet to the peninsula, making literacy easier to obtain. Prior to Hangul, literacy in Korea could only be achieved by learning the complex and ornate Chinese Kanji, something few peasants and field workers had the time to do.
