Osan offers professional enhancement opportunities for Airmen

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  Professional enhancement and development within the Air Force are not only tools to help members succeed, but a requirement to ensure that each member is capable of fulfilling all necessary responsibilities as they advance in rank and acquire new duties.

To help Airmen reach their full potential, several classes have been instituted at Osan designed to assist in different facets of their Air Force career.

"Osan is a one year tour for most Airmen and every month we have Airmen in and out processing to bases all over the world," said Master Sgt. Loretta Washington, 51st Force Support Squadron career assistance advisor. "I hope that our Airmen leave the professional development courses knowing how important they are in the big picture and that they have many involved NCOs and senior NCOs who support their professional growth as leaders before for us."

Upcoming courses include the Informed-Decision Seminar, NCO Boot Camp, Osan Junior Enlisted Counsel Bullet-Writing Class, NCO Professional-Development Seminar, and Airman-Enhancement Seminar.

The Informed-Decision Seminar is scheduled for April 24 at 3 p.m., and is catered for all first- and second-term Airmen who are 12 to 15 months from their dates of separation. The purpose is to inform Airmen of options and benefits offered to them by the Air Force so that they can make informed decisions on whether to re-enlist or separate.

NCO Boot Camp is a two-day course taking place May 2-3, designed for senior airmen and staff sergeants who haven't attended Airman Leadership School. During this two-day camp, Airmen receive an advanced look at topics such as NCO history, enlisted force structure, professional communications and teamwork.

For Airmen E-1 through E-4 who would like to expand their skills in bullet writing, OJEC will be hosting a bullet-writing class May 2 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the McPherson Community Center. The class will stress the importance of EPRS and how to track bullet information and manage career development as well.

The NCO Professional-Enhancement Seminar May 8-10 is designed to target NCOs who've completed ALS at least three years prior and/or who have not yet attended the NCO Academy.

"The purpose of the Airman-Enhancement Seminar is to provide a professional development tool to Airmen who are motivated and seeking an opportunity for growth," said Staff Sgt. Tyreika Clark, 51st Logistics Readiness Squadron maintenance support liaison, and 5/6 Council vice-president. "In the time between technical school and ALS there is a huge gap and lack of professional development programs in place that cater to our Airmen. The AES is a kick start on Osan to help close that gap, educate our Airmen, and prepare them for success."

The Airman-Enhancement Seminar will take place April 30 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will cover how to prepare for a Below-the-Zone board, enlisted force structure, enlisted performance reports and awards, professional development, and also includes an NCO panel at the end to discuss any concerns Airmen may have regarding their careers.
