April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Month of the Military Child

April is designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month and Month of the Military Child. One way to help prevent child abuse is to get involved with children in the community. Parents are children's first teachers, but not their only teachers.

All throughout April Family Advocacy will be offering awareness classes on child abuse and taking better care of children. For more information call 784-5010.

Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration

This year marks the 41st anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, with Arbor Day following on April 29. Osan will observe these events with a variety of activities.

Osan Elementary School will host an Arbor Day planting event on April 21 at 3:30 p.m. OES students will plant 10 trees and 200 flowers, giving them an opportunity to learn about the value of trees in everyday life. Students here are also taking part in an Earth Day poster contest, with the overall winning poster being made into T-shirts that will be awarded for the top entries in each grade.

The Osan Recycling Center will give away T-shirts and boxes to collect paper for recycling on April 22 at 10 a.m. The center is located at Building 838, near the Popeye's/Burger King facility.

Volunteers will post "No Dumping" stickers near drains throughout the base on April 22 from 1:00-2:30 PM. This helps prevent pollution to the nearby Chin Wi River. For information on volunteering, contact Mr. Joon Choi, 784-0328 or 784-4272.

The program is available every Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Osan USO and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the base library. For more information, call 784-3491.
