Osan breaks ground on new club Nov. 12 Published Nov. 8, 2009 By 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Osan Air Base will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new enlisted club Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. This groundbreaking event kicks off another step in the Tour Normalization process at Osan, as the $17 million facility will give Osan's thousands of enlisted Airmen and their families a venue for multiple official and entertainment events. The club, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011, will be a 36,000 gross sq. ft. facility consisting of a large multi-purpose entertainment area, sports bar, casual lounge and game room. Specifically, the entertainment area is designed with state-of- the-art audio, video, a stage, two bars and a dance lighting system, but it also has flexible space to use as a ballroom, banquet and meeting space. It can host regular weekly programming, USO shows and large special events, with capacity for 500 persons sitting and 1,000 people standing. Osan currently has two enlisted clubs - the Challenger Club and the Mustang Club - though the Challenger is scheduled to be razed following the completion of the new club. The new club will be built at the center of the base on Songtan Blvd., across the street from Turumi Lodge and adjacent to the Officers Club. 51st Fighter Wing officials believe the new club will give the base a venue to host large-scale events such as Air Force Balls, group dinners and change of commands. The groundbreaking will be attended by Mr. Arthur J. Myers, a member of the Senior Executive Service and the current Principal Director for Military Community and Family Policy, and Col. Nicholas DeMarco, Pacific Air Forces Chief of Services.
