Team Osan goes “green” Published March 12, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Terri Barriere 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Going "green" is the new "it" thing to do. So whether it is reusing water bottles, switching to all natural cleaning products or carpooling, many people are seeking out ways to do their part for the environment, Team Osan included. According to Mr. James Hillier, osan energy manager, Osan has implemented the Pacific Air Forces Strategic Energy Plan. In accordance with this plan, Osan has begun using a resource efficiency manager and incorporating the following goals: Generating cost savings and value to the activity of greater than the REM program costs in the form of utility cost savings, energy project grants and other incentive payments and projects. Reducing energy, solid waste, water and sewer costs. Establishing highly visible energy and resource conservation programs through awareness campaigns and training; to establish the REM as a base resource for occupants, building monitors, operations and maintenance staff and other trade groups; to provide strong educational and motivation components to all occupants at a facility. to develop and review the economic and technical feasibility of energy conservation projects. To provide project management and coordination for development and implementation of energy conservation projects. To help increase recognition of the base energy program through good management practices and preparation of reports, case studies, award submissions and other program documentation. However, striving to reach those goals will be a team effort and according to Mr. Hillier, there are plenty of things Team Osan can do to support the Mustang Energy Conservation Program. "Get involved with saving energy and the environment," he said. "Use energy like you are paying for it yourself. Every dollar spent on wasted energy is one less dollar spent on quality of life for Team Osan. Inspire one another to conserve energy, especially your children. You can find plenty of fun and exciting ways to save energy with family and friends." Mr. Hillier said this is the future ahead. Osan will continue to combat energy waste, provide energy conservation education and highlight the benefits of conserving energy. "We can all benefit by getting 'energized' about saving energy and having everyone get involved," he said. "Awareness, training and implementation will be key to mission success and quality of life."
