7th AF routes FSS, wins 25-13

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  The 7th Air Force defeated the 51st Force Support Squadron with a score of 25-13 during an intramural flag football game Oct. 29, 2014, on Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.

The 7th AF team kicked off the game by scoring on the first drive as Andrew Entz, 7th AF, connected with Devon Roberson, 7th AF, with a 45-yard touchdown pass. Unable to convert on the extra point, AF took a 6-0 lead.

FSS struggled on the team's first drive only gaining five-yards before punting the ball back to AF.

FSS's defense stepped up on AF's second drive when Matthew Casey, 51st FSS, intercepted the ball on the third play of the drive and ran it back for a touchdown. The play tied the game at 6. FSS continued to play tough defense for the rest of the first half keeping AF from moving the ball down the field.

"Getting the two interceptions helped set the tone for first half," said Prentice McAfee, 51st FSS. "We needed to capitalize more on the opportunities we had."

FSS scored one more time before the end of the first half giving them a 13-6 lead.
The momentum began to turn in favor of AF as the second half started. FSS struggled to move the ball down the field during the opening drive, and were forced to punt the ball.

Daniel Bodine, 7th AF, returned the punt for 20-yards giving his team good field position at FSS's 21-yard line. Using his speed and good blocking from teammates, Bodine scored on the first offensive play running the ball into the end zone. FSS still held onto a 13-12 lead.

"Going into the second half we knew we had to run the ball more because they weren't blitzing us," Roberson said. "Our running game went very well once we hit the outside because their defensive backs and safeties were playing very close inside."

For the second consecutive drive, FSS failed to move the chains and were forced to punt yet again.

AF continued to capitalize off of FSS's misfortune started their drive on FSS's 21 yard line. Kyle Harvey, 7th AF, caught a touchdown pass on the first play of the drive from Entz giving them an 18-13 lead.

FSS showed some life on their third drive of the game. The team found themselves in a 4th-and-1 situation with 3:45 left in the game. FSS took a chance and went for the first down, but the quarterback was met in the backfield and sacked.

With time on their side, AF ran the ball to dwindle down the time on the clock. The team scored one last time with 1:30 left in the game giving them a 25-13 lead and victory.

"We played very well on both offense and defense which helped us build momentum for the second half," Roberson said.

The win helps the 7th AF team improve to a 5-6 record for the season.

"Even though we have already beaten FSS, we learned that we shouldn't underestimate our opponents no matter how either team played in the game prior," Roberson said. "We always have to come out and play our hardest."
