EAM urges Airmen to take action in energy conservation Published Oct. 10, 2013 By Senior Airman Siuta B. Ika 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- October is Energy Action Month, which marks the start of the "I am Air Force Energy" campaign at Osan and bases throughout the Air Force. The month serves as a call to action for every Airman to not only focus on energy awareness, but to recognize the daily contributions needed by everyone to help achieve the Air Force's energy goals. "This whole month is about taking action and doing something instead of just being aware of it," said David Moysey, 51st Civil Engineer Squadron resource efficiency manager. "Saving energy is easy; we just need to get everyone on board with conservation." Saving energy can be as easy as turning off the light switch when you leave the room, said 1st Lt. Matthew Tubtim, 51st CES installation energy manager. "If just one person turns off their light that might be little, but if we can get a whole office, then building, and you translate that into all the buildings on base, that's a significant energy savings right there," Tubtim said. "Most people don't know that we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a month just on electricity. That's a lot of money we could save by doing something so simple." Throughout October, the Energy Action Month team will be conducting various events and outreach programs to help spread the word on ways to conserve energy. "We will have a booth set up at the Exchange on the 18th for Energy Day, and also happening that day we're giving people a chance to trade in their incandescent light bulbs for energy saving, compact fluorescent light bulbs for free," Tubtim said. "We'll also be hosting a dodgeball tournament at the Fitness Center. More details will flow down once the date and time are locked in. After the events, we really want people, instead of just thinking about it, to actually go out and do something." For more information on Energy Action Month activities at Osan, contact 1st Lt.
