The annual Combined Federal Campaign, which allows federal employees to donate to more than 25,000 eligible non-profit organizations, kicked off here Sept. 16.

The non-profit organizations in the CFC provide health and human-service benefits throughout the world.

Col. Brook Leonard, 51st Fighter Wing commander, encourages CFC representatives to remind others of the reason behind the program.

"Many times I think the pushback that you get with the CFC is that it becomes about money, but that's not what it's all about," he said. "It's about people and helping others."

Last year, out of the $258 million that was raised globally, Osan contributed more than $258,000. This year, the goal is set for $268,000. Donations can be made by cash, check, or payroll deduction.

"The charities run the gamut from veteran's organizations, disaster relief, community education and outreach programs, clinical research, and many other categories," said Capt. Larry Sepassi, 36th Aircraft Maintenance Unit assistant officer-in-charge. "It's important to note this pledge time, because this is the only time of year these charities will be allowed to solicit for contributions."

Several events are in the works for this year's CFC, to include an Xbox tournament on Oct. 5 and a 5K fun run with a date still to be determined.

"Unique to the CFC-Overseas, undesignated contributions are returned to overseas installations for Family Support and Youth Programs," said Sepassi. "Employees stationed overseas can support programs that directly improve the quality of life in overseas military communities."

In order to donate to FSYP programs, donors should leave the five-digit charity code blank on the pledge card.

For more information, individuals should contact their unit CFC representative.
