The 51st Logistics Readiness and Support Cargo Movement Team was awarded the Pacific Air Force 2021 Department of Defense Packaging Production Achievement Award for their efforts at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, January 12, 2022. The cargo team was awarded for their excellence in packing and preparation of cargo and freight. The cargo team has been selected for this award every year since 2018, making this their 4th consecutive win. The cargo team attributes their success to frequent deployments, which trains members to work at a high proficiency.

This week’s Airman of the Week is A1C Hunter Shores, 51st Force Support Squadron military postal clerk. Shores ensures all mail acceptance procedures are abided by to the highest standard while researching other U.S. Postal Service and Department of Defense offices and their respective local regulations in order to continue to refine and provide Team Osan with the most expedient and reliable mail service experience. One of Shores' most prominent and recent leadership projects was heading up Operation SANTA 2021 training 40 volunteers in order to ensure the delivery of 302,000 pieces of mail, all while working 7 days a week. This outstanding work and dedication to his craft is why Airman Shores is our Mustang Monday Airman of the Week!

Happy Mustang Monday! This week’s Airman of the Week is Staff Sgt. Ryan Claerhout, 51st Civil Engineer Squadron NCOIC of aircraft arresting systems. Claerhout is in charge of all aircraft barrier and generator maintenance on base. Aircraft barrier maintenance consists of the BAK-12 or Barrier Arresting Kit, which is pneumatic braking system and the MB-60 or Modular Braking system, which is considered the second line of defense should the BAK-12 fail. These systems allow “Tail hooked aircraft” such as the F-16s to be slowed down and stopped, if there was ever a landing issue such as a slippery runway causing the aircraft to hydroplane. Additionally, there are numerous generators on base that support sensitive, critical and mission essential operations. When there are base power outages, rest assured the mission will carry on all thanks to SSgt Claerhout’s diligence in ensuring mission essential generators continue to operate when needed. Outstanding work Staff Sgt. Claerhout!
