Osan Soldier Combats PTSD through Korean Martial Arts
Sgt. 1st Class Michael Huddleston, 375th Ground Liaison Detachment non-commissioned officer in charge, poses with his sword at Ahn’s Haidong-gumdo academy’s exhibition and tournament held at U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, Republic of Korea, May 14, 2022. The english translation of Haidong Gumdo is “Way of the East Sea Sword.” The essence of Haidong Gumdo is shimsang, which is a unification of the mind, body and spirit expressing itself through the use of the sword. Huddleston’s story with Haidong-gumdo is one of overcoming challenges and finding peace within himself while battling with PTSD. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
