Name: Staff Sgt. Terrell O. Smith

Unit: 51st Fighter Wing

Job title: Chapel resource management NCO in charge

Job description and its impact on the overall mission: As a Chaplain's assistant my job is to ensure that the spiritual welfare of Osan Airmen is at its healthiest point. Spiritual fitness is our overall goal. Spirituality doesn't always have to be taken from a religious aspect; it can also refer to the mental well-being of an individual, although most of us correlate it to religion. I personally relate it to faith. We work alongside Chaplains as religious support team members, with the Chaplains leading the team.

Time in the military: 12 years

Time at Osan: Eight months

DEROS: August 2013

Family: Wife, Deb

Hometown: Bath, N.C.

Hobbies: I like working out, staying healthy, cars, traveling, and taking care of my dogs.

Why did you join the military? I joined the Air Force to serve, along with the educational benefits that come with serving.

Where do you see yourself in 10 or 20 years? In 10 years I'm sure I will still be serving in the Air Force, somewhere in the medical field.

What do you do for fun here? At Osan I like to travel, work out, and read.

What's your favorite Air Force memory or story? My most memorable Air Force memory was being deployed a few months after Sept. 11. I was just coming in to my first base at Aviano, Italy as a weapons troop. We were sent to Al Jaber, Kuwait where I felt like I was actually doing and being a part of what I came in to do, real-world. It was definitely a life-changing event for me. I felt like that was a way to give back, in remembrance of the individuals that were lost while not forgetting their families that were left behind. I'll never forget.

What accomplishment are you most proud of? I'm most proud of almost being done with my Nursing Degree.

Who are your role models? God first and then successful individuals who set goals and meet them, while always striving to better themselves.
