As Typhoon Bolaven works its way through the Yellow Sea to the west of the Korean peninsula, Osan Air Base is taking necessary safety precautions during that time.

The base went into Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) 1, with max gusts of winds at 50 knots or greater anticipated throughout the day. All non-mission essential personnel are required to stay in their primary residence during Typhoon Bolaven, and all personnel are required to be on telephone stand-by.

All non-mission essential facilities are closed Aug. 28, 2012 to include schools, the Exchange, Commissary, Dining Facilities, Fitness Center, Children's Deveopment Center, movie theater, etc.). The eye of the storm is currently projected to be near Osan from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. All personnel are encouraged to turn refrigerators and freezers to their highest settings, keep children at home and move sensitive items away from windows.

In the mean time, base personnel need to use their chains of command for the most accurate information. They should also monitor the Osan Air Base Facebook page at www.facebook.com/51FWOsanAB for updates as they become available. Updated weather information can also be heard on AFN Eagle radio at 88.5 for Osan and Suwon Air Base and 88.3 for Camp Humphreys.
