Energy conservation during Memorial Day

The Memorial Day holiday is coming up fast.

Many are in a hurry to get out of the office and that's alright. But please, don't forget to turn off unnecessary lights, equipment and appliances before you go.

These include:

Coffee pots
Task lighting
Conference room lighting
Over head lighting
Restroom lighting
Exterior lighting

Don't forget to turn off computer monitors too.

The fact is, computer monitors and printers use energy even in stand-by mode. That's right. The energy draw is estimated at eight watts of electricity during this time. So if everyone turned computer monitors off, the savings will be approximately 1,560 kW or $1,014 dollars a day. So during the holiday period, Osan can save over 6,240 kW or $4,056 dollars! Again, this savings is just from computer monitors. So be mindful about energy conservation and turn stuff off before you go.

In addition to turning computer monitors off, turn off coffee pots, bathrooms and hall way lights, and televisions when not home or after 10 p.m. Turn up the thermostat to 76 degrees Fahrenheit or higher as per the major command's energy policy and guidelines.

The base energy team is very excited about the holidays and, we too, are celebrating. Please be safe and don't forget to watch out for your wingman.

Energy conservation is a collective effort we can all benefit from. Every little bit helps.
