The 7th Air Force Ball committee hosted an Air Force Ball Sept. 18 at the Lotte World Hotel here to celebrate the service's 63rd Anniversary with the help of the Republic of Korea Air Force and local community members.

More than 900 people attended the ball, themed "60th Anniversary of the Korean War," which focused on the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

"We thank and honor the families of the Korean War veterans who fought and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in a far away land defending the freedom of Korea," said Lt. Col. Elven E. Duvall, Air Force Ball committee lead. "The sacrifices of the Korean War veterans made it possible for the Republic of Korea to become a thriving and prosperous democracy in the region and a partner in global security."

The birthday celebration started with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by the formal portion of the event at 7 p.m. After the presentation of colors and playing of both the American and Korean national anthems, distinguished guests led attendees in a round of toasts.

After dinner, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey A. Remington, 7th Air Force commander, and 7th Air Force Command Chief Master Sgt. Stephen Ludwig initiated the ceremonial cake cutting. As the youngest Airman in attendance, Airman 1st Class Shelby Jordan, 51st Mission Support Group joined General Remington and Chief Ludwig for the symbolic cake-cutting ceremony.

After intermission, a photo and video presentation titled "Air Power in Korea" illustrated the evening's theme with images from the Korean War to the present.

"The presentation perfectly captured how the world stood together in defense of the people of the Republic of Korea," said Senior Master Sgt. Stephen W. Clay, 51st Munitions Squadron. "The strength and enduring nature of the ROK-U.S. Alliance owes a huge debt of gratitude to the Korean War veterans."

General Remington then took the floor and delivered the keynote speech, "Alliance Forged in Blood."

The night then continued with dancing and socializing until midnight.

"I think attendees had a great time, said Col. Patrick C. Malackowski, 51st Fighter Wing commander. "I would like to offer my gratitude to all those Airmen who worked diligently over last few months to make this a spectacular event."
