7th Air Force kicked off Beverly Bulldog 10-02 July 12, exercising Airmen's ability to defend the base from attack, execute combat operations, and accept follow-on forces.

During the week-long exercise, 7th Air Force Airmen will also demonstrate their ability to complete the mission in simulated chemical environments while executing their primary duties, practicing self aid and buddy care, conducting post-attack reconnaissance, and unexploded ordnance sweeps.

These scenarios assist base leadership, commanders and exercise planners in determining which areas need improvement for future exercises and possible real-world situations.

"Together with our allies, we are prepared to protect and defend the Republic of Korea against any aggression," said Col. Pat Malackowski, 51st Fighter Wing commander. "We need to train and practice with our Korean partners for the defense of their nation. Through practices and training I have no doubt the Mustangs will be ready to fight and win."

The 51st FW is the most forward-deployed wing in the Department of Defense and provides combat ready forces for close air support, air strike control, counter-air, inderdiction, theater airlift, and communications in the defense of the Republic of Korea. In addition to the substantial force in place, additional combat power in the region can quickly arrive to further enhance capabilities.

Beverly Bulldog 10-02 is scheduled to run through July 16.
