2008 CFC begins Oct. 1 Published Sept. 26, 2008 By Staff Sgt Candy Knight 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The 2008 Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas, the largest workplace charitable giving program in the world, is set to begin Oct. 1. CFC-O is the U.S. government's way of reducing the need for solicitation from thousands of individual organizations and combining all of the two thousand charities that seek donations into one consolidated campaign, said Capt. Beth Rosario, Osan CFC-O project officer. The theme for this year's campaign is "Make a World of Difference." During the campaign, contributors may designate their donations to more than 2,000 U.S.-based charities that work in military communities throughout the country and around the world. Service members also have the option of donating to Family Support and Youth Programs, which allows the money donated to return to base programs such as: - Give Parents a Break - Osan Parents Network - SAFE HAVEN - Spouse's Employment Class - SARC - NEO - Various Youth Programs - AFRC Cooking Class - Bundles for Babies - TAP - Volunteers program "This is convenient for the charities because they automatically receive donations each year just by being a part of the CFC listing and it is convenient for the donor because they can choose the charities of their choice to donate to once a year," Captain Rosario said. Service members can give a one-time donation, or opt for a payroll deduction. Payroll deductions take effect Jan. 1, 2009, after this year's contributions cease. In 2007, Team Osan members donated more than $325,000 to CFC charities, surpassing the base's goal of $300,000. In total, CFC-O raised more than $15.7 million. "CFC demonstrates Americans' generosity each year," Captain Rosario said. "This year we hope to exceed our goal again, by an even larger margin. Even a very small donation of as little as $4 can provide clean drinking water for people in disaster areas." Whether the charity of choice is an orphanage, hospital, cancer research, or helping wounded veterans; CFC offers a wide range of choices where people can make a real positive impact in other people's lives, she added.
