Another milestone in Air Force history took place as the 694th Intelligence Group was reassigned from the 70th Intelligence Wing to the 480th Intelligence Wing during a ceremony here July 15.

"This is a bittersweet day for us," said Col. Joseph DiNuovo, 694th IG commander. "There is a lot of history in this [70th] wing. I hate to say goodbye, but we appreciate where we come from."

The reassignment is one of the latest steps in the Air Force's Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance transformation designed to improve worldwide AF Distributed Common Ground System weapons systems management.

"The realignment of the 480th Intelligence Wing and associated Intelligence Groups accomplishes two important objectives as part of Air Force ISR transformation," said Col. James Marrs, 480th IW commander. First, it unites Air Force DCGS elements previously spread across four major AF organizations. Secondly, it creates standardized AF ISR Groups that will be allocated operationally to their respective component numbered air forces."

Colonel Marrs added that even with all the recent changes, the one thing that will not change is teamwork.

"The unique alliance with Korea will continue to strive," he said.
The ceremony concluded with the publishing of special orders, officially reassigning the 694th IG to the 480th IW.

"To members of the 694th IG, this [reassignment] is good for you," Colonel DiNuovo said. "Be proud of where you've been and where you're going. Today, you are part of history and I urge you to continue the 694th IG legacy under the 480th IW."

The 694th IG mission is to provide fused, time-critical, actionable intelligence directly to warfighters, U.S. Forces Korea and Combined Forces Command. It is the most forward-deployed and the only DGS co-located with linguists.
