The 51st Fighter Wing Airfield Control Tower team received the first-ever Osan Energy Warrior Award on Aug. 1 for their efforts in energy conservation.

The team came up with a system to have the airfield lights turned off to the maximum extent possible outside of normal wing flying hours in order to save energy and reduce 51st FW expenses. This effort results in more than $9,000 savings annually.

"It's amazing how much of a difference small efforts can make when you look at the big picture" said Lt. Col. Brian Hastings, 51st Operations Support Squadron commander. "This type of effort really embraces what the Chief of Staff (of the Air Force) is trying to get the Air Force to do."

"We all need to be environmentally conscious," Colonel Hastings continued. "Look at our daily processes and try to see where within those processes we can save."

Along with the award certificate, 20 coins were presented to the airfield team members.

"It's always nice to receive positive recognition" said Tech. Sgt. Tony Sutter, 51st OSS. "Good feedback on your work makes you want to try that much harder to continue to make things better".
