Making the enemies job a bit harder Published July 12, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Christopher A. Marasky 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Excellence is a standard at Osan AB, it's practiced in all facets of Team Osan's mission. It's no surprise then that Team Osan has won Air Force 2007 Best Anti-Terrorism program, installation category, and will now compete at the Department of Defense level. Every member of Team Osan has helped the program reach new heights, but one member in particular has played a key role. Mr. Tony A. Smith, the 51st Fighter Wing anti-terrorism officer, won best anti-terrorism program manager for Pacific Air Forces. "It's awesome to feel recognized for your hard work, and that others see the base is working hard," said Mr. Smith. "It shows that we are fully engaged and everyone is participating. It's not just a program, it's everything: funding, training, exercising, etc." One area highlighted was the creation of the integrated base defense initiative; every Airman is a sensor and works to protect the base. Each unit assumes responsibility for the defense of their personnel and resources in accordance with guidance from the installation commander. Team Osan's accomplishments in the area of anti-terrorism have garnered many other awards as well. Osan was awarded the Pacific Air Force Inspector General's first ever "Outstanding" rating for a mass-casualty, full-spectrum threat response inspection. Osan also garnered a well-deserved "Excellent" rating from the PACAF IG Team for a superior anti-terrorism force protection program. Team Osan's innovations in the area of anti-terrorism looked to the future as well. The design of the new housing area won a USAF concept design award. "My goal is to be the best in DoD," said Mr. Smith. "Just because we've won this doesn't mean we're going to stop now."
