Master Sgt. Gregory Weymouth from the 51st Medical Group is this year's Air Force First Sergeant of the Year.  Sergeant Weymouth has been serving in the Air Force for sixteen years, and has been a first sergeant for the past three.

"I wanted to be a shirt to help people.  The strong point is taking a struggling Airman, and turning them around. Seeing them years down the road with the struggles behind, and having a successful career is the real reward, it's definitely gratifying" said Sergeant Weymouth.

"What makes this position important in my mind is directly focusing on the Airmen so they can in turn focus on the mission.  Ensuring all enlisted needs, whatever they may be, are taken care of inherently enhances the mission" said Sergeant Weymouth about the vital role of the first sergeant in the Air Force.

"I realized right away that the caliber of Sgt. Weymouth's professionalism is very high.  From the start he stated his expectations, and he polices them.  He steps out and takes care of the folks in the Group, said Colonel Vincent Michaud, 51st Medical Group Commander.  We're really lucky to reap the benefits of having him as a shirt.  He is a true reminder of the high level of excellence and professionalism we have all over the Air Force"

Other members of the Combat Medics echoed the sentiments of their commander.  "After getting to know Sgt. Weymouth I realized that he's an incredible shirt. I've worked with him for six months now and it's very clear to me why he was chosen for this award. He has given nothing less than a stellar performance.  His presence is really felt amongst the Group.  We are truly blessed to have him" said Chief Master Sgt. Alex Perry, 51st Medical Group Superintendent.

"I believe MSgt Weymouth is a great shirt.  His main focus is his Airmen, he really takes care of us.  He should be First Sergeant of the Millennium" said Airman 1st Class Amanda Taylor, 51st Medical Support Squadron.

The title First Sergeant of the Year is awarded to only the most deserving first sergeants who truly display the meaning of the Air Force core values.

"I was surprised to find out that I won," said Sergeant Weymouth.  "In reality, I'm doing the same thing that every USAF first sergeant does, 'Taking care of the people', and in my mind they all deserve this recognition, it's just very humbling"

"Serving in Korea is exciting. This base is only forty-seven miles from the enemy.  The base leadership is great, and I'm proud to serve here" said Sergeant Weymouth.
