Osan Mustangs face off against Cheongju Tigers

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  Many are not aware of this, but Osan has a soccer club - the "Osan Mustangs Futbol Club." The Mustangs play in an amateur league called the "Super Sunday Futbol League." The league consists of several teams from in and around the local area.

The Mustangs' most recent game was against the Cheongju Tigers on Nov. 12. Initially, the Mustangs tangoed well with the Tigers. During the first half, A.J. Pinto scored the Mustang's first and only goal of the game on a penalty kick -- tying the game 1-1.

Early in the second half, things began to unravel for the Mustangs as Rocco Archina was shown a red card for an unfair, potential goalsaving tackle. Playing with only ten men made it difficult for the Mustangs to recover.

Late in the second half, the Mustangs came close to scoring a second goal when Chris De La Campa kicked a rocket-like shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. The game's final score was 4-1.

Overall, the Mustangs' defense held its own. In particular, Ian Snowsill was a wall --nothing got past him and Rocco Archina -- his speed was amazing. On the offensive side, the Mustangs displayed glimpses of creativity, but failed to sustain that creativity throughout the duration of the game.

The Mustangs' next home game is Dec. 3 at the Osan American High School Football Field (time to be determined). Anyone interested in playing for or supporting the team can attend the practices Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at court No. 2 of the base gym.
