51st CS earns double excellence Published April 28, 2015 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The 51st Communications Squadron earned an excellent in a Department of Defense level Command Cyber Readiness inspection, conducted April 13-17 at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea. The inspection focused on the readiness of the 51st CS through their compliance with USCYBERCOM directives. The scope of the CCRI included the inspection of more than 6,000 computer network devices, with a massive checklist that covered more than 8,000 items. Three areas were analyzed during the inspection: United States Cyber Command computer network defense directives, technical areas, and contributing factors. The scores were weighted and based on the inspected areas impact on cyber readiness. Final scores were given on a rating scale from 0-100 percent, with 90-100 percent being an "Outstanding", 80-89 being an "Excellent", 70-79 being an "Acceptable", and 0-69 being "Unacceptable." Due to preexisting and uncontrollable Air Force-wide issues, the highest score possible for the 51st CS was an 87. The 51st CS was deemed "excellent" in both the Non-secure Internet Protocol Router Network and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network categories. "Cyber readiness requires everyone's active engagement," said Capt. Michael Holloway, 51st CS network operations flight commander. "This inspections included all of the 51st CS and affected all of Team Osan." Basically, everyone who uses a computer or handled information was subject to being inspected, said Holloway. "Team Osan definitely proved that we are cyber ready during our CCRI with two excellent ratings," he said. "A lot of installations don't earn excellent ratings on both networks." Efforts of the 51st CS were praised by the inspection team, who said during their out-brief that the two words "pride" and "dedication" were apt to describe Team Osan's commitment to cyber readiness, said Holloway.
