Team Osan Remembers 9/11

OSAN AIR BASE, Repbulic of Korea --  Team Osan gathered today to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Among the ceremonies were a silent 5K run followed by a memorial service at the 51st Fighter Wing headquarters.

The run was preceded by a rendering of the colors, team salute and address remembering the attacks.

"We're starting this day off with a run, which is a great physical reminder of the price people have paid in our history," said Col. Brook Leonard, 51st Fighter Wing commander, to the formation before the run.

The memorial ceremony included a moment of silence, renditions of both the Korean and United States' national anthems and a wreath laying.

The memorial honored the sacrifices of service members' ancestors, said Leonard at the ceremony. The members of Team Osan today are defending the same freedoms their ancestors fought for, whether on Flight 93 over the hills of Pennsylvania or at Hill 180 as part of the Korean War.

In addition to the run and memorial service, Team Osan is also honoring the victims of 9/11 with a service-before-self volunteering initiative. From Sept. 11 - Sept. 15, Team Osan has set the goal of completing one volunteer hour for every victim of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
