Sixteen Airmen from Osan Air Base graduated the inaugural Resiliency Training Assistant Course held Aug 5-8.

The resiliency course, developed by the Army along with the University of Pennsylvania, teaches military members how to deal with the many issues that they might face in a calm, methodical way; one step at a time. The course provides members with the tools to combat stressful situations before they become bigger problems down the road.

Military life brings about many stresses and challenges for our Airmen and their families; and with over a decade of deployments, these stresses and challenges have only increased. A resilient person will be able to bounce back, and hopefully, grow from those events. We want to provide our Airmen and families the preventative tools and knowledge to perform better and avoid self-defeating behaviors. Resiliency is about strengthening our force so that they can 'withstand, recover, and/or grow in the face of stressors and changing demands.'

The four domains of resiliency are mental, physical, social and spiritual. A resilient person is "fit" across all four domains. The core tenets for each domain are the key characteristics in a resilient person. Comprehensive Airmen Fitness (CAF) is designed to provide resources and tools to enhance these characteristics within our Airmen and family members. It is important to know and emphasize that all four of these domains interact with and influence each other. A person should focus building themselves in all domains, not just one or two.

Currently, there are only seven Master Resiliency Trainers assigned to service Osan. With an overwhelming population of military and civilians, help was needed to facilitate during Wing CAF days and throughout the year within the units. These 16 pioneers took the first step in bridging the training gap by completing the first of many classes to come.
