The Headquarters Pacific Air Force Air Postal Squadron performed a postal operations inspection March 24-26 at the Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea Post Office. The Post Office received an outstanding in each of the four sections.

"It's important to have done as well as we did in the inspection because it shows that we are handling the mail the way we are required to by the Department of the Air Force, PACAF and USPS standards and exceeding it every day," said Tech. Sgt. Jerry Prowant, 51st Contracting Squadron official mail manager.

The POI evaluates operations and management of all postal functions to determine the unit's ability to accomplish its assigned mission and comply with the Defense Department and United States Postal Service directives.

Master Sgt. Tameisha Howell, 56th CS postal operations section chief is proud of her unit's effort in passing the inspection.

"Everyone came together as a team and did what had to be done whether it was adding an extra step to ensure the mail was delivered to its intended receiver, sprucing up the facility or receiving the necessary training," she said.

The inspection involved more than just military personnel.

"The Korean employees and military personnel were dedicated to ensuring our facility, programs and policies were compliant," Howell said. "I am very proud of everyone who had a hand in helping us succeed."

PACAF AIRPS inspected 13 different areas of the Post Office; they are delegation and termination of military postal clerks, postal finance accounts, individual training records, publicity program, continuity program, required publications, key control log, USPS supplies and postal equipment, additional duty program, quality initiative program, self-inspection program, resource protection program and appointment of unit mail clerks.
Air Force Post Offices are rated in all four areas: finance, operations, service and official mail.

The finance section is responsible for assisting service members who are sending parcels and letter class mail.

The operations section is responsible for maintaining the facility, securing and ensuring accountability of funds, postage, equipment and mail. It includes Registered Mail Section which handles high dollar/critical items.

The postal service center is responsible for processing all personal mail and ensuring delivery of all parcels and letter class mail.

The official mail center is responsible for processing all of the official mail for the 68 units and civilian agencies operating on Osan AB. They also handle the receipt and dispatch for all of the mail for 96266 and 96278 zip codes.
