Colonel Culbertson is the Vice Commander, 51st Fighter Wing, Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea. He assists the Wing Commander in leading more than 5,800 personnel in the Air Force's most forward, permanently-based fighter wing. Comprised of an F-16 fighter squadron and an A-10 fighter squadron, the 51st Fighter Wing wields combat ready, close air support, counter-air, interdiction, air base defense, and communications in defense of the Republic of Korea. He is the chairman of nine wing committees and councils and is responsible for the management of wing staff and civilian employee cost management. Colonel Culbertson assists in administering more than $2 billion in assets and an installation budget of more than $150 million to support 130 units and 15 commands.
Colonel Culbertson received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in June 1994. He earned his pilot wings from Undergraduate Pilot Training, Vance Air Force Base, OK in July 1995 and has served as an F-16 pilot, instructor pilot, evaluator pilot, and Weapons School Instructor. Colonel Culbertson has operational experience in Southeast Asia, Germany, and Korea. He has served on the United States Air Force Warfare Center staff as Chief of the AEF Division, 561 JTS. While assigned at Nellis Air Force Base he served as the Director of Operations and Commander of the 16th Weapons Squadron, U.S. Air Force Weapons School. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Culbertson was the Fifth Air Force, Director, Operations and Plans, Pacific Air Forces, Yokota Air Base Japan. He is a Command Pilot with over 2,900 total flying hours in the F-16, T-37, and T-38.
