OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- October marks the beginning of the Department of Defense’s official Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Family Advocacy Program and Violence Prevention Office has partnered with our community FSS partners to bring you a Month of Healthy Relationship Enhancement.
In recognition of this year’s theme of “United to End Domestic Abuse,” the Family Advocacy Program is partnering with FFS events to promote healthy relationships: marriages, dating or intimate partner relationships and friendships. These events include a couple’s karaoke on October 6th, a trivia night themed around healthy relationships on October 19th at the Enlisted Club and a couple’s night Sip and Craft event on October 23rd.
“Our goal is to promote prevention and highlight what healthy relationships look like,” said Capt. Amanda Mansour, 51st Operational Medical Readiness Squadron Family Advocacy Officer. “It’s important for us to take a pause and honor those who have been a victim of domestic violence by promoting prevention and providing resources to enhance relationships as everyone deserves a safe relationship.”
The Family Advocacy Program and Violence Prevention Office will also be conducting a roundtable discussion on October 15th at the Mustang Center to talk about what healthy relationships look like, as well as learn the warning signs of domestic violence and what resources are available to help someone in need. The roundtable will provide an open forum for any questions or concerns someone may have about domestic violence that they may not want to voice anywhere else.
“The mission of the Family Advocacy Program is to build healthy Air Force communities through implementing programs designed for the prevention and intervention of domestic violence and child abuse.” said Mansour.
The Family Advocacy Program will be present at each of this month’s events to further promote their message with resources and information. They will also be highlighting other resources located on base or online, such as Chaplains and Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs).
“We’ll be there at all these events to talk and remind people that we’re here for you,” said Mansour.
The month’s events are not just for couples, single Airmen are encouraged to bring a friend along and learn about healthy relationships for their next relationship.
“Come on out, have some fun and get some resources for when you enter into your next relationship and make it a healthy one,” said Mansour.
Military life can often be overwhelming and it is easy to let personal relationships suffer in the name of the Air Force, but the Family Advocacy Program is here to help.
“Life gets busy, life gets hectic, but taking care of yourself and relationships is important for everyone,” said Mansour.
