Team Osan reminded to register bicycles Published Aug. 15, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Chad Strohmeyer 51st Fighter Wing Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- You have your bike, helmet and you're ready to start treading the base. Or are you? Before you can ride your bike on base, it has to be registered at the 51st Security Forces Squadron's Pass and Registration Office. This process is done for the bike owner's benefit. If a bike is stolen, 51st SFS will have all of the necessary paperwork to get it back to the owner. Also, since bikes are treated just like vehicles, it is necessary to have a base decal on each bike. The pass and registration technicians have honed the process for bicycle registration here, getting bikes tagged with decals in minutes. "I came in with my bike, signed in and within minutes I was being helped," said Senior Airman Christopher Trusnik, 51st Maintenance Operations Squadron. "The process is extremely easy. I was in and out in 15 minutes." There are new improvements since 51st SFS reinstated bike registration this summer. For example, pass and registration technicians have started issuing all-weather decals so it stays on your bike during the monsoon season. While having a bike registered can be a benefit, it is not, however, optional. "If you have a bike that is not registered it will get confiscated during the security forces round-ups that take place every six months," said Senior Airman Portia Wyatt, 51st SFS. But just because the round-up is only every six months, it doesn't mean that a bike still won't get confiscated. "I check everywhere I walk, if I see a bike at the base exchange not registered I am going to write it up," said Airman Wyatt.
